As marketers, we know how fast the social media landscape moves. Even though we are six months into the year, there are new platform updates which you need to be aware of. There’s always developments on the social platforms which we need to stay on top of.
Blink, and Instagram’s added a new feature. Look away for a week, and TikTok’s changed the way content gets found.
2025 so far has been no different, in fact, it’s one of the biggest years we’ve seen for updates across all major platforms.
Whether you’re refining your social media strategy or just trying to keep up, these are the most recent platform updates you need to know.
Let’s get into it.
Instagram has finally rolled out native 3:4 image support, great news for creators and brands alike.
That means the photos you take on your phone will now display as they were meant to: no more awkward cropping, no need to adjust framing. This works for both single-image posts and carousels. Of course, you can still post in square or 4:5 if that’s your thing.
But the bigger win? New post analytics.
You can now track which posts are driving:
These insights are available across all accounts, with a few added extras for Premium users. The data’s broken down into two new sections: Profile Activity and Link Engagement. Perfect for working out which content actually drives action.
TikTok
In a bold move, TikTok has upped its max video length from 3 minutes to 10.
This is huge for creators looking to dive deeper into tutorials, storytelling, or product showcases. It's also likely to shift how brands plan content, think longer-form, value-first pieces rather than quick-fire clips.
There’s also a noticeable push towards better discovery. TikTok has improved its search functionality, making it easier for users to find relevant videos, accounts, and trends.
What this means for you: double down on keyword strategy, tighten up your captions, and make every second of that 10-minute window count.
Add to that its growing suite of e-commerce features, including in-video shopping tools and TikTok is quickly becoming more than just an entertainment platform.
Meta
Meta (yep, that’s Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and co.) is leaning even harder into AI this year.
By the end of 2026, Meta says it will fully automate ad creation. That means:
Love it or fear it, it’s the future of digital marketing.
Also new: cross-posting from TikTok to Instagram. That’s right, Meta is now embracing its former rival to boost engagement across platforms. So if you’re posting a TikTok, consider pushing it to Instagram without having to re-edit or repurpose. Seamless.
Whatsapp
WhatsApp has introduced audio hangouts for group chats.
Think of it like a voice room, one that doesn’t ring everyone’s phone but still lets people drop in and chat when they’re free.
This could become a useful tool for communities, remote teams, or even content creators running group discussions. Less formality, more spontaneity.
LinkedIn
We’ve heard the same thing from many of you: “I want to know how my content’s performing beyond just likes.”
Well, LinkedIn delivered.
Now you can see:
The goal? Help you track content performance against outcomes, not just vanity metrics.
To access the data, head to any of your recent posts and click View Analytics. Look for the two new sections: Profile Activity and Link Engagement.
It’s another step towards understanding what’s working and what’s not in your social media strategy.
